Filled PTFE

Hansa Filled PTFE

When it comes to choosing these fluorocarbon-based polymers, also known as PTFE or Teflon (DuPont’s brand name) you can choose unfilled PTFE or filled PTFE. Virgin PTFE does not containe filler material. It is because the material is made from 100% pure PolyTetraFluoroEthylene material.

Although virgin PTFE remains a versatile engineering material, certain applications may require unique performance requirements. Consequently, we have the filled PTFE.

PTFE filled products can be filled with glass fiber, carbon, bronze, graphite, and Mos2, the percent can be 10% 15% 20% 25% 40%, just as requested.

Filled glass fiber PTFE, could increase its hardness, wear resistance, and strength.
Filled carbon PTFE can improve mechanical properties, pressure resistance, wear resistance, and thermal conductivity . Including Self lubricating performance and a certain hardness. Some Piston rings and guide rings are filled with glass fiber and carbon together to increase their physical property.

PTFE filled glass fiber and Mos2 products are good selling products in our factory and can be made into tubes, rods, sleeves, and then machined according to drawings.PTFE filled 40% bronze is also very popular in Europe countries, we make filled bronze sheets, tubes, pipes, and so on.

Type of Filled PTFE Type of Filler Material Ratio Functions of PTFE Filler Material and Application
Glass-filled PTFE · Fiberglass

· Quantity 5% to 40%

· Increase compressive strength

· Improves resistance to wear

· Makes PTFE rigid

· Reduces cold flow and improves chemical resistance

· Reduces creep

Carbon filled PTFE · Carbon

· Quantity varies between 10% and 35%

· Improved compressive strength

· Can change PTFE conductivity

· Improved chemical resistance

· Improves hardness and loading properties

· Makes PTFE wear resistant

Graphite filled PTFE · Graphite

· Amount varies between 5% and 15%

· Increases PTFE strength

· Reduces coefficient of friction

· Reduces initial wear

Molybdenum disulfide filled PTFE · Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)

· Quantity varies from 5% to 15%

· Improves PTFE stiffness and hardness

· Improves chemical inertness

· Improves wear resistance

Mineral filled PTFE · Mineral mica

· Quantity varies from 5% and 10%

· Improved stability

· Excellent wear resistance

· Best for FDA-approved PTFE

Bronze-filled PTFE · Bronze · Improves electrical and thermal conductivity

· Reduces chemical resistance property

· Alters non-stick properties

Polyimide filled PTFE · Polyimide · Low friction

· Introduced non-abrasive features

· Most expensive filled PTFE

Calcium fluoride filled PTFE · Calcium fluoride (CaF2) · Alternative for PTFE filled with glass.

· It is a perfect choice where glass filler isn’t a perfect choice more so due to chemical resistance

Stainless steel filled PTFE · Stainless steel · Withstand higher loading

· Higher wear resistance

· Can replace bronze due to excellent chemical resistance

Calcium silicate filled PTFE · Referred to as wollastonite or calcium silicate · Perfect substitute for PTFE filled with fiberglass

· Suitable for food applications

· Exhibits less abrasive properties

Ekonol filled PTFE · Aromatic polyester EEkonol · Superior wear resistance properties at extremely high temperature

· Perfect for rotary applications

As you can see, there are many ways to improve the performance properties of PTFE. Simply choose the right filler material.

With the help of a professional filled Teflon manufacturer, you can get material for your unique application requirements.

Remember, you can have more than one filler in PFTE such as:

  • Carbon, graphite, and glass
  • Bronze and molybdenum disulfide
  • Glass and molybdenum disulfide

Advantages of Filled PTFE

  • Improved mechanical properties– they have a high compressive strength
  • Wear resistance– PTFE can resist wear in most applications
  • Improve thermal properties– some are suitable for applications requiring heat dissipation
  • PTFE with better stability– suitable for PTFE in food processing industries
  • Increases versatility– you can easily customize PTFE for virtually any application depending on specifications and requirements.

The PTFE with fillers is available in many configurations such as:

  • Filled PTFE sheets
  • Filled PTFE rods
  • Filled PFTE blocks
  • Filled PTFE tubes
