HANSA Virgin PTFE
Virgin PTFE is made from unaltered or non-recycled polytetrafluoroethylene. The polytetrafluoroethylene is 100% pure. This is the same product Dupont refers to as virgin Teflon. But, you can also refer to it as unfilled PTFE.
Virgin PTFE is a pure material that has not been processed in any form. You can easily identify the virgin polytetrafluoroethylene with its distinct white color.
You can improve the performance or mechanical properties of virgin PTFE by adding fillers such as graphite, carbon, bronze, mica, etc. Usually, after adding fillers to PTFE, their name changes depending on the filler type.
For instance, you will have glass-filed PFTE, graphite-filled PTFE, bronze filled PTFE, just to mention a few.
Applications of Virgin PTFE
- Virgin PTFE gasket and seals
- Virgin PTFE mouse feet
- Virgin PTFE bushing
- Virgin PTFE lining
- Virgin PTFE valve seats
- High-voltage electrical connectors
- Virgin PTFE slide bearings
Virgin PTFE Properties
Many virgin PTFE material properties are making it perfect for many applications:
Wide PTFE temperature range; it ranges between -73°C and 149°C. It is suitable for both cryogenic and high-temperature applications.
Virgin Teflon is FDA-approved: making the polytetrafluoroethylene suitable for suitable food processing and pharmaceutical industries. Virgin Teflon is safe for most food applications.
Superior thermal and electrical insulation; it neither conducts, dissipates nor now allows free flow electrons
Low coefficient of friction; virtually no material sticks on virgin PTFE.
Excellent chemical resistance: is one of the best chemical resistance materials available. It also has superior weathering resistance.
Although virgin PTFE properties are superior. It has some weaknesses including very soft and cold flow tendencies.
Additionally, virgin Teflon does not have superior mechanical properties. As result, filling PTFE may be necessary to improve certain virgin PTFE properties.
In most cases, the manufacturer will specify in their virgin PTFE data sheet if their product is pure or mechanical grade.
The virgin PTFE types are available in many forms such as:
- Virgin PTFE sheet
- Virgin PTFE film
- Virgin PTFE rod
- Virgin PTFE tube
- Virgin PTFE
