PTFE Seals
PTFE seals, commonly known by DuPont’s brand name Teflon seals are mechanical structures that fill space to prevent possible leakages by filling or blocking spaces. PTFE sealers are a general term you can use to refer to PTFE gaskets, PTFE O-ring seals, expanded PTFE sealing tape, PTFE packing seal, or any other PTFE sealing mechanism.
Depending on specific applications, there are many PTFE seal design guides, which dictate the structure every sealer must conform to. Generally, PTFE sealers are designed for high-performance applications including high temperature, highly chemical corrosive environments, cryogenic uses, high-pressure use, extremely low friction conditions, and better insulation requirements.
Your Professional PTFE Seals Manufacturer
PTFE sealing is suitable for static, linear, or rotary applications. Even when you are thinking of dry-running applications, PTFE mechanical seals guarantee optimal performance.
Another significant performance of these sealers is the PTEF seal temperature rating, which varies from –100 °C to +250 °C.
Depending on the application, you may opt for virgin PTFE seals. They are the purest forms of PTFE sealing solution. These PTFE sealers are suitable for clean room environments. They are FDA complaint.
Also, custom PTFE seals may have other additives. Common fillers for PTFE seal material include graphite, metal oxides, glass, molybdenum disulfide, or carbon.
Graphite in the PTFE seal ring will guarantee “zero” friction. On the other hand, carbon-filled PTFE sealers have superior compressive strength and load-bearing capability.
PTFE Sealing Applications
- PTFE pump seals or PTFE valve seals
- PTFE rotary seals
- PTFE wiper seals
- PTFE spring seal
- PTFE sealer for pistons, lids, and shafts
These PTFE seals play critical roles in many fields such as braking systems, plumbing, mechanical sealing, compressor systems, automotive engine, actuators, food processing equipment, aircraft landing gear, turbine engines, gearboxes, robotics, insulators, oil and gas industry, just to mention a few.
PTFE Seal Installation
Installing PTFE sealers require careful handling to avoid possible damage. First, clean where you wish to install the PTFE sealing, insert it then fasten it appropriately.
Types of PTFE Sealers
There are many PTFE sealing mechanisms today including spring-energized PTFE seals, PTFE rotary seals, PTFE thread seal tape, PTFE seal rings, PTFE sealing strips, PTFE sealing washers, etc.
