Glass Filled PTFE
The amount of glass filler can be 5% to 25% by weight. Depending on the composition, the glass-filled PTFE materials have:
- More durable and stronger
- To have a superior compressive strength
- Less flexible
- More abrasive compared to virgin PTFE.
- Glass-filled PTFE chemical compatibility is relatively high, hence does not react with most chemicals.
- Glass filler does not change the working temperature range (-200oC to +260oC).
Depending on your unique requirements, you can get a glass-filled PTFE rod, glass-filled PTFE sheets, or any configuration.
Comparing Glass Filled PTFE Vs. Carbon Fiber Filled PTFE
Although the two PTFE fillers improve performance, there is a slight variation in their characteristics:
- Carbon Filled PTFEhas high thermal conductivity than PTFE filled with glass
- Glass-filled PTFE has a higher coefficient of friction than carbon-filled PTFE
Applications of Glass-Filled PTFE
Hydraulic piston rings, seats, shaft bearing – this is due to the superior wear resistance properties
Glass-filled PTFE gasket – since it is resistant to permanent deformation and resists wear when subjected to high loading.
Glass-filled PTFE sealing – perfect for dynamic loading or reciprocating movements.
Other applications include pump housing, slide runners, roller coverings, etc.
It is worth noting that under certain circumstances, you may have 15% Glass filler and 5% MoS2 or graphite. In such circumstances, the filled PPTFE will have improved co-efficient or friction and thermal conductivity.
