Although glass-filled PTFE is distinctively known for its white color, they come in varying color options. Unlike carbon-filled PTFE rods, glass-filled PTFE rods have low thermal and electrical conductivity.
Filling PTFE rods with glass reduces flexibility and improves creep resistance. Furthermore, glass-filled PTFE rods exhibit more strength and durability. Additionally, glass-filled Teflon rods are also resistant to deformation and are dimensionally stable.
Depending on the level of performance, you can add between 5% and 40% glass in either PTFE virgen or mechanical grade PTFE.
Glass fiber also increases the Teflón rod’s compressive strength and wear resistance. However, this filler does not interfere with the working temperature which varies between -200°C and 260°C.
To improve performance characteristics, glass-filled PTFE rods may have molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) with 5% composition by weight.
Glass-Filled PTFE Rod Applications
The most common cross-section is the solid round PFTE rods filled with glass. They are different cross-section areas and lengths.
You can fabricate or machine glass-filled PTFE rods to make many products. The PTFE rods with glass fillers are suitable for CNC turning and even precision grinding.
